Dean Clarke Lofts

Exeter, Devon

The elegant Dean Clarke House was built in 1742 as England’s first general hospital. The Grade 2 listed building was a hospital until 1974 , then became offices, and was eventually listed on the Building at Risk Register.

LHC secured planning consent for the complex transformation of one wing of Dean Clarke House into 30 stylish lofts apartments for students.

With high ceilings, tall windows, large rooms and elegant staircases,it was a building which lent itself perfectly to conversion into living spaces for the 21st century.

The design retained the best features of the original building and brought it up-to-date with modern kitchens, mezzanine bedrooms and high speed broadband. LHC subsequently secured planning consent with detailed designs for the rest of the building , transforming it to a mix of luxury apartments, restaurant and offices.
