October 2008 – LHC rewarded at the British Council of Offices Awards 2008
The Rolle Estate Office, Bicton, praised for its vision and courage has won the Regional Winner Small Projects South of England (outside M25) and South Wales category at the recent British Council of Offices (BCO) Awards 2008.
Presenting an award that recognises top quality design and functionality and is a benchmark for excellence in workplaces, the judges saw The Rolle Estate Office as 'truly a building in harmony with the surrounding environment'. Falling under its spell, they appreciated the way a clear vision was impeccably achieved despite the difficulties arising from a development sited in Grade I Listed parkland.
Commitment towards the sustainability of the building was also singled out for praise ‘the modest size of 655m2, the unique character of Clinton Devon Estates and the commitment to sustainable design and quality has incurred the substantial cost of £2,947 per m2. This could have been done much more cheaply but the integrity of the scheme would have been compromised, standards undermined and important lessons less clearly illustrated.'
The judges went on to state that ‘it is imperative that projects such as this are encouraged and the best examples of design, construction and services applied more widely.'
