March 2008 – Camborne Regeneration Begins
Detailed planning permission has been granted by Kerrier District Council for the 1st Phase of the Dolcoath Development Scheme. Designed by LHC Architecture and LHC Urbanism on behalf of Midas Homes in partnership with English Partnerships, it is part of a wider scheme aimed to bring prosperity back to Camborne through redevelopment of the former Compair Holman site.
"This 1st Phase meets an increasing need for new and affordable housing by creating a sustainable community with a clear character and sense of place. It is the start of an exciting time of regeneration for Camborne, which we hope will provide a quality environment for current and future generations." Nicola Stinson, Kerrier District Council
Consisting of 95 dwellings, 25 of which will be affordable (18 houses and 7 apartments), the development has been designed to minimise its environmental impact through excellent rated Eco Homes, long life design and ‘green construction'. The scheme has also been designed to be locally distinctive, incorporating local stone colours and the use of contrasting door and window surrounds to create an attractive and colourful street scene that respects local history and existing architecture.
The overall Dolcoath Development Scheme obtained outline planning permission in September 2007. The scheme comprises a total of 390 residential units, 4,812sqm of business floorspace, 2,467sqm of light industrial floorspace, community provision and open space. The project is an important development for English Partnerships, the government's national regeneration agency, which aims to deliver high quality, sustainable growth for the Dolcoath area. "We want to create communities where people can afford to live and want to live and that support the regeneration of urban sites into vibrant sustainable towns and cities. Obtaining planning permission for the 1st Phase of the Dolcoath Development Scheme enables the regeneration of Camborne to begin in earnest." Steve Jackson, English Partnerships.
English Partnerships is the government's national regeneration agency. Their aim is to deliver high quality, sustainable growth in England. They do this by developing their portfolio of strategic projects and acting as the government's specialist advisor on brownfield land. They also ensure that surplus public sector assets are used to support wider government objectives, especially those contained in the Sustainable Communities Plan. English Partnerships helps to create communities where people can afford to live and want to live, and supports the urban renaissance by improving the quality of towns and cities.
