March 2009 – New Washington masterplan project for LHC Urbanism

New Washington masterplan project for LHC Urbanism

LHC Urbanism has been appointed by CEMEX UK Properties to help transform a ten hectare site in West Sussex from despoiled industrial land to a new residential neighbourhood and Country Park. When adjoining minerals land is included, the Park will connect the nature conservation site at Sullington Warren with the National Trust's land at Washington Common.

Working with planners Drivers Jonas, transport consultants JMP and ground engineers Hydrock, LHC Urbanism will create a master plan that delivers a distinct identity for the site whilst maximising the developable area. Set in the big landscape of the South Downs the public realm within the scheme will be important in unifying the design, whilst a contemporary architectural language will be developed that harmonises with the Sussex vernacular.

An outline planning application will be submitted in August following consultation with the local community and Horsham District Council.
