Plans submitted for new homes in Honiton

Outline plans have been submitted to East Devon District Council for a development of new homes in the centre of Honiton.

The Foundry Yard scheme for 32 homes, on the Halse Machinery site, Mill Street demonstrates how a small infill site can provide essential new housing on brownfield sites, and reconnect the urban fabric with high quality streets and public spaces.

Of key importance on the site was the development of bespoke house designs that meet the HCA’s space standard requirements, provide high quality living environments and enable site constraints – such as tight back-to-back distances and flood requirements – which were addressed without compromising the delivery of new housing.

The HCA commissioned LHC, working with consulting engineers, Pell Frischmann and town planning consultants, Bell Cornwell, to prepare an initial Feasibility Report and outline planning application. We carried out site and context appraisals and an initial character appraisal to underpin the subsequent concept masterplan. An understanding of site constraints, including levels, access, flood and drainage, ecology and the relationship to adjacent existing properties informed the concept plans.

A Design Code has also been produced to accompany the planning application and ensure that the design proposals envisaged by the design team and client are carried forward to detailed planning and delivery on site.
