LHC’s new Engineering Building opens at Petroc

Petroc College in Barnstaple has just welcomed the first students into its newly opened Engineering Building, delivered post-planning by LHC.

The college secured £10.8 million investment for the new Engineering Building, together with a new Lifestyle & Tourism Building which will open in the spring. Both will provide bespoke education spaces for hundreds of students.

The Engineering Building features state-of-the-art facilities and fully equipped workshops, open communal spaces, and a balcony area that enjoys natural light through the glazed entrance.

The workshops are finished with polished concrete floors, and a robust exposed concrete staircase rises to a comfortable first floor with a more traditional learning environment of six classrooms and offices.

The steel frame for the new Lifestyle & Tourism Building is up, and once complete it will cater for students aspiring to work in leisure and hospitality. Uniquely, part of the fuselage from the interior of an aeroplane will be incorporated to make training in airline roles as realistic as possible. Commercial kitchens, a professional restaurant, fully equipped hairdressing and beauty salons, and more traditional teaching spaces are also included.

The aim of this project is to provide flexible working spaces. We have used high quality materials and considerately designed spaces that will act as a source of inspiration and motivation for the students in their future careers.
